Interview questions to ask during a job interview

A good job interview is more than completing a checklist. It is a chance to discover who the candidate really is and whether that person fits in your company. The right questions make all the difference.

Start with behavioural questions. These give insight into how someone acted in the past - often the best predictor of future behaviour. For example, "Tell about a time when you had to work under time pressure. How did you handle that?"

Next, motivational questions are crucial. Why does someone want to work at your company? What is he or she looking for in a job? A strong question is, "What should a job have to make you enjoy starting every day?"

Culture fit is also important, especially in small teams. Ask about work style, communication preferences and expectations. For example, "What does your ideal collaboration with a manager look like?"

In addition, you may use realistic scenarios. Outline a typical challenge in your company and ask how the candidate would tackle it. This way, you will discover whether someone thinks practically and solution-oriented.

Finally, don't forget to listen. The best interviews are not cross-examination, but dialogue. Candidates who feel heard automatically get a better picture of your company.

With the right questions, you will make better choices, avoid mismatches and build a stable team.
